SYTYCD: Friends or More?
On last night's So You Think You Can Dance, front-runner and audience-favorite Kent Boyd delivered the final routine of the night with All-Star Neil Haskell. If they weren't enough to fill your pretty blond boy quota, Travis Wall was their choreographer.
Travis tells the audience that the dance is about a guy being betrayed by his friend, but once Kent and Neil were dancing on stage, it was not too much of a stretch for anyone to think the boys were portraying boyfriends going through an emotional break-up.
One of the good things that came out of this year's developments (All-Stars as partners and girls getting eliminated early) is that the show has showcased many more same-sex routines, which are almost always fantastic, than previous seasons. When it's two guys though, the show has tried its hardest to make the routines a display of athletic machismo, which is why even if last night's number with Kent and Neil were strictly about two friends, the emotionality displayed by the two guys were a sort of breakthrough for this show.
In any case, it's Travis who says it's about two friends and whether the dance was between "friends" or "lovers," I don't think it really loses its power and beauty either way.
