Roger Federer celebrates his 29th Birthday today! He is in Toronto right now getting ready for his first tournament since losing in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
He has plenty of work to do in the latter half of the tennis season. Unlike last year when he was riding an incredible 20-match streak on the heels of winning Madrid, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon, his post-Australian Open results have been lackluster. His impressive consecutive slam semifinal streak ended in Roland Garros and was extended in Wimbledon and now his ranking is at a 5-year low of #3 in the world behind top ranked Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
With that said, he did win a Grand Slam this year at the Australian Open and he can still look forward to the US Open where he is "only" defending points as a finalist, not as a champion. At age 29 though, every Grand Slam victory is precious.
