Box Office: Magical Opening for Harry Potter

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, the seventh film in the Harry Potter series, opened this weekend and it opened big with $125 million. In fact it was the second best November opening of all time, second only to a film about sparkly vampires. It was also the highest-grossing opening weekend for the series, good for sixth best opening of all time.

While the number is big, many seem to think it should've been more. They seem to forget that in a little less than eight months from now, we will see these numbers again, probably bigger, for the very final film of the series.

It was even better news worldwide with the film making $205 million internationally, the fourth-biggest international opening ever and the biggest opening for a film outside the summer-season. In total, the film has already amassed $330 million.

For my part, my friends and I contributed about $52 to that gargantuan opening weekend and will do so again, probably on IMAX at a midnight showing, for the final film.
