"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Ferris Bueller's Day Off celebrated its 25th Anniversary two days ago and one has to wonder how many times since then has the above quote been used as someone's yearbook quote. Culturally, like many of John Hughes films in the 80s, it made a big impact. For me, it is actually my favorite John Hughes film and it's still one of my favorite films of all time.
Part of the film's fascination is the wish fulfillment it provides of being able to ditch school (or any kind of responsibility) to just spend a day hanging out with friends. Matthew Broderick exuded charm and energy as Ferris Bueller while Alan Ruck provided a great counterbalance as the hypochondriac and anal-retentive Cameron. Their bromantic relationship is the backbone of the film and a small part of me wishes that Broderick and Ruck would reunite for another project.
In any case, I'll leave you guys with one of the most popular scenes from the film. You know you want to sing and dance along.
Do you love Ferris Bueller? Are you more of a Ferris or a Cameron? What is your favorite John Hughes film?
