Producers Guild Nominations

The guilds are usually the best indication of what will or won't be nominated for an Academy Award. It's not perfect, but it does give us an idea of which films are on the rise and which films are fading fast. The Producers Guild is the only guild to pick ten films, which would be helpful to see which films could possibly make the Best Picture Ten.

Producer of the Year Award in Films
  • An Education
  • Avatar
  • District 9
  • The Hurt Locker
  • Inglourious Basterds
  • Invictus
  • Precious
  • Star Trek
  • Up
  • Up in the Air
All of the Best Picture front runners are accounted for so no big shock there. The biggest shock may be the inclusion of both District 9 and Star Trek. While both films made good money and were highly regarded, it was thought that getting one, let alone, three sci-fi films would be an uphill climb. It's still doubtful all three would make it all the way to the Academy Awards. While Avatar is a near certainty, it will still be an uphill climb (and a dogfight) for the other two.

Some of the notable exclusions are 500 Days of Summer, A Serious Man, The Messenger, A Single Man, Julie & Julia, Where the Wild Things Are, and Nine with the latter looking less and less likely to crack the Best Picture Ten every single day.

The nominees for Animated Films and Documentaries are...

Producer of the Year Award in Animated Films
  • Coraline
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • 9
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • Up

Producer of the Year Award in Documentaries
  • Burma VJ
  • The Cove
  • Sergio
  • Soundtrack for a Revolution

Thanks for reading. Feel free to drop me a line. Instead of being Anonymous though, pick a name. Any name would do. Thanks again!
