Earlier today the draws were held live on ESPN News for the first time. On hand were the two defending champions, Roger Federer and Serena WIlliams, both looking pretty damn good. And why shouldn't they? Both of them have won 3 of the 4 Grand Slams and no matter what you think of them both, they have both been a dominant force in their respective tours this decade.
It's going to take me awhile to go through the draws and make my predictions, but already there's some interesting developments. Some of the top guys have very tricky first round matches: Nadal/Gasquet, Murray/Gulbis, Djokovic/Ljubicic. Retiring Santoro gets Ferrero in the first round while retiring Safin can get Del Potro in the second. What's more important is that Nadal, seeded 3rd for the first time in years, is in the opposite side of the draw as Federer. Nadal is on one side of the draw with Murray and Del Potro while Federer is on the other with Roddick and Djokovic. Click here for the Men's Draw.
The Williams sisters are on the same side along with Kim Clijsters. The other side is a bit more loaded with Safina, Jankovic, Dementieva, Sharapova, and Kuznetsova. Click here for the Women's Draw.
More extensive draw analysis this weekend.
