It Gets Better

Today is National Coming Out Day and it's become a more important day this year in light of increased media attention to the epidemic of (mostly gay) youth suicides. The "It Gets Better Project" is an online channel started by Dan Savage where people are encouraged to post their videos responding to the suicides and bullying as well as with their personal experiences. Since its inception just a month ago, there have already been many videos uploaded, some from big Hollywood stars, in support.

Below see videos from Zachary Quinto, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Colfer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Anne Hathaway (and friends):

While the It Gets Better initiative doesn't accept donations, it does push people to support organizations such as The Trevor Project. Maybe in time things will get better and there will be no need to have a special day to come out.

  1. Thanks for this post! Definitely important to keep this type of conversation flowing when so much tragedy's been going down. Awful that it took all those deaths to get some real national attention towards gay bullying, but at least some good support is coming from it. Who knows? Maybe they'll actually finally pass GENDA.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to drop me a line. Instead of being Anonymous though, pick a name. Any name would do. Thanks again!
